Just a note before I get all goofy on you as is my style... We are experimenting with a new format on the Oliver Springs Historical Society website. It is set up to open to the "What's New" page, so as to make it more certain that you, our reader, do not miss out on important updates. If you desire to access the "Home" page, simply click on any "Home" button
and you should handily get to that page. All our document, photo, article, etc., links are still from that page. We value your input, so if you have suggestions, comments, critiques, observations, or other inclinations toward garrulous output, Send it in written form to:

Did you ever get your britches leg caught in the Tilt-A-Whirl at the fair? Me neither... but that is about the sensation the ol' Robbinator is getting right about now. There are so many things going on in our little corner of the universe. (I said "corner", but as you know I was being modest, as everybody knows our loveliest little village is smack dab in the CENTER of God's glorious creation).
What's that, you say? You want to know just what it is we are so in a dither about? Well, I guess I should just start at the nearest and proceed to the farthest, as Momma used to do when whuppin' the babies....
First and foremost is our grand Gospel singing that we have made an annual event. Slated to be held August 20th at 6pm at the Kellytown Baptist Church Activities Building, this is one event that you just cannot afford to miss.

( This is the brochure from one of the years past. )
This year's promises to top all others that have gone before it. As before, we will have absolutely the FINEST in local talent. Folks like the Beech Park choir, the singing duet of (ahem) Robbie and Janice Underwood, the talented Scott and Becky Parker from First Baptist, and many more.
Below is a list of our performers scheduled so far:
Garvan Walls---------Mt Pisgah Baptist
Julian Daniel--------Littleleaf Baptist
Don Lawson--------Kellytown Baptist
Christy Irwin---------OS Church of God
Dean Wood--------OS United Methodist
Debbie Armes------Batley Baptist
Robbie & Janice Underwood-------OS Church of Christ
Scott & Becky Parker-----------------OS 1st Baptist
This is just a partial list.. We still have a couple we are working with to see if their schedules will accommodate. One of those is our very own American Idol participant Janelle Arthur.

Janelle is trying to work her busy schedule so as to be able to be with us once again.
As her favorite Uncle, I'm pulling out all the stops on my end to have her here from Nashville, where she has established her base of operations for now. Janelle is such a busy girl, what with jetting off to locales near and far to perform. We'll see...
We have also booked the fabulous "Called
Out" quartet.
These folks have played and sung all over the United States. I heard them and was just blown away. They are going to be the "centerpiece" for this year's singing. They are excruciatingly funny as well as being just fabulous with their musicianship and vocal harmonies. I just know you're going to love them if you haven't heard them. If you were fortunate enough to have been to one of their shows, you already love them.. you're just going to love them more!
We have included an application form just in case the Gaithers find themselves freed up and in town. Click on the link below if your group wants to secure a slot in this year's lineup. To access that application click on the link below.
Here are a few shots from years past.....
One thing I want to report is the news regarding the October Sky Fall Festival coming up in.. well, October. Our friend and fellow laborer/partner in crime Kelly Ayers has been working on a splendid website devoted exclusively to the October Sky Fall Festival. You may access it by clicking on the link below: just remember to come back here and finish reading this update, lest you be hopelessly in the dark.

There are extensive plans being made for the Fall Festival. One thing that is cooking on the front burner, as Granny used to say, is the Huuuuuge reenactment of the Marshal Pony Cash murder that took place right down on Main Street in September of 1904.

This will, if it is able to sprout wings as we hope, be staged on the very venue that the actual gunplay happened on that fateful day so long ago. We will be keeping you abreast of developments, but as for now you should incline your molecules toward that date... this is something you will not want to miss. If it works out, it will be the biggest dramatic event in our region ever. You got that? EVER.......
