Update 7-02-2007
Where were you in 1957? ... Can't remember?.. Nice try, but those were the '60's that gained the dubious reputation whereby "if you can remember them you weren't actually there". Folks brought up in the '50's were demonstrably a more sober, unmedicated lot, as far as I can tell.
Sometimes I go the long way around to get to the point. Point is, I have come across some absolutely fabulous pictures from the '50's, thanks to my good friend Martha Deaderick Walls. Martha was in school at O.S.H.S. in the late '50's, as were a number of our esteemed Historical Society members. One of her classmates was Dr. Jim Smith, brother to Drs. David and Steve Smith, and son of Nevin Smith. It seems that Dr. Jim is somewhat of a photo enthusiast, and spent a goodly part of his high school career snapping pictures of everything and everybody. It also appears from the photos that Dr. Jim has a good eye for framing a shot. Martha has gathered together a veritable trove of pictures from that era, (Many of them courtesy of Dr. Jim Smith) and she and I scanned them all for the benefit of you, beloved friends and colleagues.
Take a look at these....

These pictures were taken from high up top of the water tower behind the present Luke Hall home. Click to enlarge, and you just might see your old house.. maybe your best friend's house. See the alley where you all used to smoke cig... well, never mind....
Well, I'll declare.. just who is that dashing young fellow seen above? Is it.. could it be... city alderman Omer Cox?
Now who could this angelic vision be? Could it be our own Phyllis Walls Lund? No wonder the boys stammered and stuttered as she walked by... And to think.. still delightful and sweet after all these years.... Phyllis is one of the truly good people, in my humble opinion. So many struggle and posture to attain the grace and charm she comes by so naturally.
I was told that this dashing young man is none other than our own Don Lawson. If it is, I want him to tell me about the car....
The Beta Club, which is, I think, some kind of secret organization made up of supersmart kids. I originally thought it to be some sort of "Babe" club, but those ugly stubbly mugs on the back row dashed that theory..
Speaking of Martha, looky here at her perched high on the mount with Phyllis Walls (Lund)...
I am in the process of making a page on this website devoted to these most recent pictures. Thanks so much, Martha, for your help and your friendship. Thanks go out also to you, Dr. Smith, for caring enough to make these priceless photos available to us. We aim to see that the legacy of the class of '57 endures through perpetuity. (I love that word...)
Much more to come.......
